REJECTION

Today’s Joy Notes is a reflection on the importance of REJECTION. Rejection—when I was young, it would hit me to my core. It made me question whether I was good enough, whether I was worthy of what I was seeking. Despite being qualified, experienced, and prepared, rejection felt like a personal indictment, a loud “no” not just to my efforts but to my very being. I carried the weight of every “no,” letting it chip away at my confidence and sense of value.

Then I started to realize something profound—rejection isn’t always about me. It’s not always a reflection of my worth, talent, or potential. Sometimes, rejection is simply redirection. It’s life’s way of closing doors that aren’t meant for me, steering me toward paths I wouldn’t have chosen otherwise but needed to walk. I began to see rejection not as failure but as feedback. It taught me resilience, sharpened my self-awareness, and deepened my understanding that my value isn’t contingent on external validation.

Over time, I stopped asking, “Why not me?” and started asking, “What’s next for me?” That shift changed everything. Rejection lost its power to define me because I no longer gave it that authority. Instead, I let it refine me. Each rejection became a lesson, a necessary pause, or a nudge toward growth. I learned that my worth is inherent, not negotiable, and certainly not determined by someone else’s decision. Rejection didn’t break me; it built me.
