Today’s Joy Notes is calling out that we have no time for “THE POT STIRRER” also known as the Instigator, a disruptive force in any organization. This individual thrives on division, using unsolicited comments, ideas, and rumors to escalate minor issues into full-blown crises. Their behavior can destabilize teams, erode trust, and create an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty. To manage such individuals and foster unity, a multi-faceted approach is required.
First, it’s essential to address the instigator directly, setting clear boundaries and consequences for divisive behavior. Engage them in a private conversation to highlight the impact of their actions on the team and the organization. This is not just about reprimanding but also understanding the root cause of their behavior—are they seeking attention, or do they have underlying concerns that need addressing?
Second, strengthen team cohesion to minimize the instigator’s influence. Encourage open communication, where team members feel safe to express their thoughts and concerns. By fostering a culture of transparency and mutual respect, you create an environment where rumors and negativity struggle to take hold.
